About The Project

MODEL: family of large Turtles

In 2016, CDM were asked to design, fabricate and install a family of large Turtles for a Regional Playground in Australia.

Traditionally sculptures of this nature and scale involve intensive site work, and to a certain extent an adhoc approach. CDM proposed an offsite precast solution driven by digital sculptures that could be pre-approved by the client. CDM’s approach was to utilize our inhouse 5 axis CNC machine to cut negative molds in foam that could be cast into.

ARCHITECT: Emerge Associates
BUILDER: MG Group

Approved digital assets were used to drive an inhouse 5-Axis CNC Machine. milling the sculptures as a negative in high density foam. Jesmonite AC730 was cast into the foam moulds. The play elements were finished with a UV stable paint system and installed with minimal site disruption.
